Preparing for Dental Implants

Dental implants can be a great way to recover your smile after tooth loss. They are the most realistic solution and most closely resembles your natural teeth.

We make the process of getting dental implants in Montrose easy by walking you through every step of the treatment process to ensure a great outcome.

Preparing for dental implants is simple. Your teeth and gums must be healthy enough for surgery and the healing that follows. A comprehensive exam will give us all the information we need regarding the status of your oral health and whether you have sufficient bone to support a dental implant.

If you have gum disease or untreated decay, we will need to address those conditions prior to your implant surgery. Reducing the bacteria that can interfere with healing is important. Dr. Cory can go over any treatment you need before we get started.

Some patients who do not have ample bone density to support a dental implant may also need an additional step – bone grafting.

When you come to Mountain West Smiles, Dr. Cory will discuss the entire process with you, perform an exam, and take the necessary digital x-rays to determine the best plan for your smile. If you need an extraction, we can start there. Sometimes, if the area is healthy enough, we can place your dental implant at your extraction appointment, getting a jump-start on the treatment process. If that is not possible, placing it as soon as possible after your extraction is best because teeth have a tendency to shift when there is a gap in your smile.

When preparing for dental implant treatment, please remember that healing takes time. Your dental implant will need sufficient opportunity to integrate fully with your jawbone. If you want a solution to fill in the gap in your smile during the healing process, we can help. This is especially important for patients who are missing a front tooth.
