Extractions in Montrose, CO

be the best solution.
No one wants to hear that they need a tooth extracted. At Mountain West Smiles, we do everything possible to avoid extracting your natural teeth and make every effort to save them. Unfortunately, extractions are sometimes necessary. When that happens, you can count on Dr. Ken Cory and our entire team to make the process as pain-free and easy as possible.
Why Do I Need an Extraction?
Teeth require extractions for various reasons: Deep decay, cracks, split teeth, failed root canals, discomfort, infection, impaction, growing at an angle, and overcrowding are just a few. Sometimes, you can prevent the problem with diligent home care and regular preventative appointments. Other times, it's just a matter of biology.
If you plan to replace your missing tooth, we'll discuss your options before your scheduled tooth extraction. That way, we don’t waste precious time and risk bone loss or shifting teeth.
Simple Extractions
Simple extractions are tooth removal procedures performed on a tooth that has already erupted through your gums. Simple extractions tend to be easier both during the procedure and in healing.
Once you are completely numb and comfortable, Dr. Cory will gently loosen your tooth from its socket using a special instrument. Once it is sufficiently loose, he will remove your tooth along with any damaged tissue. He will finish the procedure by gently sterilizing the area and covering it with gauze.
People generally stop bleeding within 30 minutes, but some slight oozing is normal. Holding the gauze in place will allow clotting to happen more quickly.
Surgical Extractions
Surgical extractions are necessary for teeth that have not yet erupted through the gums and require an incision. Wisdom teeth often require surgical extractions because they tend to grow at odd angles and are unable to fully erupt.
Once you are completely numb, Dr. Cory will make a small incision. After the incision, Dr. Cory will gently loosen the tooth and remove it carefully. He will sterilize the area and stitch it closed.
Because you will need stitches, surgical extractions may take a little longer to heal. Dr. Cory will monitor you closely after your procedure to ensure your comfort and health.
Our goal is always to provide you with a comfortable, pain-free dental experience. After your procedure, Dr. Cory will recommend an aftercare routine, including any necessary medications to assist with pain management or healing.
