Professional Teeth Cleaning in Montrose, CO
The foundation of a pain-free smile and excellent oral health combines diligent home care with regular professional dental cleanings and examinations. While effective routine home care is the basis for your oral health, it is not enough on its own to keep your teeth and gums in optimal condition. At Dr. Ken Cory’s office, our professional dental hygienist picks up where your home care leaves off.
Despite your best efforts, brushing and flossing alone cannot remove all of the bacteria, plaque, and calculus from your teeth. Our hygienist’s professional training and experience, along with special tools designed for the job, can remove the plaque and bacteria, helping to keep your mouth decay- and infection-free.
Professional Dental Cleanings
At Mountain West Smiles, we offer comprehensive, gentle dental cleanings as part of your preventative care. Our hygienist is friendly and enjoys our patients, making your experience a comfortable and enjoyable one.
Our hygienist begins your appointment by assessing the health of your gums using a special technique and painless measuring tool. Your gums should be pink and fit snugly around your teeth. When pockets develop, bacteria can collect and cause an infection. If we find an area that needs more attention, we will share it with you so you can spend extra time cleaning it.
We utilize specially designed instruments to gently remove calculus from your teeth. Calculus is plaque from food particles that hardens. Once calculus reaches this hardened state, your toothbrush will not remove it. That’s why professional cleanings are so important. If calculus is left, it can cause an infection, decay, and bone loss.
Once we remove any calculus from your teeth, we finish your cleaning with a polish using a special paste designed to remove remaining particles and stains. This final step leaves your teeth shiny and smooth.
Periodontal Treatments
Do your gums bleed when you brush or floss? Have you stayed away from the dentist for too long? You might have some catching up to do. We provide periodontal services for patients who need extra care to restore their oral health.
If your gums bleed, that means you have an infection. Swelling, pain, bleeding, bad breath, redness, and sensitivity all indicate periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is sometimes reversible in its early stages, and we can help you to get back on track.
Our hygienist is educated and experienced in treating periodontal disease. We will gently sterilize your teeth above and below the gum line, eliminating bacteria and restoring your dental health. Dr. Cory and our hygienist will work together to create a treatment plan to help you stay healthy for the long term.
Dental Cleaning Frequency
For some patients, a professional dental cleaning every six months is enough to keep their teeth and gums healthy. For others with medical conditions or a tendency toward gum infections, every six months may not be enough. Once we see you professionally, we can make a recommendation that will best support your health.
Routine Examinations
Periodically, Dr. Ken Cory will visit you during your hygiene exam to ask about any changes in your health and to examine your teeth, gums, bite, and tissue. He looks for conditions such as decay, periodontal disease, gum recession, cracks, cysts, oral cancer, and any changes in your oral health. Dr. Cory maintains excellent communication with his patients and educates you on your conditions as well as treatment possibilities.
